Anonymous Mugshots (2009)
Acrylic on canvas. 36 x 24 inches.
Anonymous Mugshots (2012)The original photos of these nameless individuals, who were convicted of petty crimes, were only about one by two inches in dimension. The paintings are a result of invention and a sort of false 'restoration' - the images are partially based on real people, and partially invented. This is reactionary also to our generation's obsessive and futile goal to seemlessly recreate what is already in front of us in, as seen in film and video games.
